Alfred James Loccarini

January 3, 1927 — November 25, 2022

Alfred James Loccarini, 95, of Florence, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 25th with his loving family in his home. He and his beloved wife, Eugenia “Jean”, celebrated their 74th anniversary in July 2022. Throughout his life, Al was a loving husband, a caring father, and a cherished grandfather and great-grandfather. Born in Alpha, NJ, he was the son of the late Alfred and Devilia Loccarini. He was a resident of Florence for 50 years. He was Vice President of Manufacturing for Nytronics Components Group, Inc. in Darlington, SC. He was a 1945 graduate of Easton Area High School in Pennsylvania, then served in the US Army during World War II, stationed in Italy. After an honorable discharge, he completed an Associate’s Degree in electronics and engineering from Allentown Electronics School and a business management certification from Alexander Hamilton Institute. Before his career in electronics, he was in the private transportation business with his father and brother, owners of Diamond Taxi Service of Easton. He began using his electrical degree by starting a television repair shop out of his garage. In 1955, he joined New York Transformers (Nytronics) in Alpha, New Jersey, as Quality Control Manager. In 1962, he transferred to Geneva, New York, as Manager of Manufacturing. He was promoted to Plant Manager at the Geneva facility, and in 1973 he accepted a position at the Darlington, South Carolina, facility where he held several positions before becoming the Vice President of Manufacturing. He retired from Nytronics in 1990. He dedicated much of his time and talents when living in Easton to the Lion’s Club where he was an officer and was instrumental in the planning and building of the community's Palmer Pool. He was President of the Holy Name Society of St. Stephen’s Parish and an active member of the American Legion while living in Geneva. After moving to Florence, he became a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church. He enjoyed swimming, golfing and especially bowling. He and his wife were members of bowling leagues in Easton, Geneva, and Florence. Thanks to his father’s transportation business, he became an enthusiast of American cars, buying new makes and models every few years. His first was a 1948 Dodge D25 4-door sedan. After retirement, he and his wife, Jean, began their hobby of wine making. They would visit farms to pick muscadine grapes, strawberries and blueberries and became known to their family, friends and acquaintances for their fruit wines. After he custom built his first home in Easton and a home in Geneva – along with building an addition to his home in Florence – he enjoyed helping his children, neighbors and friends in home improvement and remodeling projects. Other hobbies he enjoyed were woodworking and making furniture. The role Al most loved – and most excelled in – was that of a family man. He and his wife, Jean, had three children, 8 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He was the beloved father of Ron (Janice) of Whitefish, Montana; Linda Huggins of Greenville, South Carolina; and Carol Carmichael (David) of Easton, Pennsylvania. He was the loving brother of Livio and dear grandfather of Jennifer Connolly, Sheila Gillotti, Bryan Mims, Allison Costantino, Kimberly Huggins, Casey Huggins (deceased), Erin Kurilla and Leah Stone. He was also the loving great-grandfather of David Mungo, Caitlyn Mims, Chloe Costantino and Caleb Costantino; Ian Huggins, Andrew Letson and Bella Huggins; Matthew Bilafer; Silas Mims, Asher Mims and Gabriel Mims; Brooke Kurilla and Zachary Kurilla. Calling hours will take place on Tuesday, November 29, from 11 a.m. to noon at Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home. That will be followed by a 2 p.m. service at St. Anthony Catholic Church at 2536 Hoffmeyer Road in Florence. Interment will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Florence. Al’s family expresses deep appreciation to Regency Southern Care of Florence, whose nurses exhibited such professionalism and compassion the past few weeks. The family would like to give special thanks to Lyles, Mee Mee, Crystal and Mary, who tenderly guided loved ones through this difficult time. In addition, the family is grateful for Jennifer and Kelly, the wonderful nurses at Centerwell HomeHealth, and for Dr. Cory Smith of McLeod Health. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Al’s memory may be made to regencysoutherncarehospice.com. Donations can also be made to Favor Upstate at favorupstate.org/give/.
