Alice Kay Hampton Haines, 88, of Pamplico, SC, passed away on Monday, January 8, 2024. She was born October 30, 1935, in Davidson, NC, to the late George and Alva Howard Hampton. She was a graduate of North Mecklenburg High School and Cabarrus Hospital School of Xray Technology. She came to Florence to work at McLeod Infirmary and later worked for Dr. George Dawson, Jr. During her employment with Dr. Dawson she took classes at night at Carolina College of Commerce. After her marriage and move to Pamplico, she went to work at JP Stevens which had just opened a plant there. She retired from Delta Mills (formerly JP Stevens) after 33 years in various clerical and administrative positions. Alice enjoyed reading, knitting, and getting “her hands in the dirt” as long as she was able. Alice loved to cook and passed down that love of sharing food with others to her daughter, Laura. She was a member of Pamplico United Methodist Church, where she served in various positions. Alice was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 52 years Charmon “Tom” Haines , and her son Charmon “Chuck” Haines Jr. She is survived by her sisters, Margaret Hampton and Elizabeth Lawson, her children: David Haines of Lake City, Mary Elizabeth Haines of Pamplico, Greg Haines of Clearwater Fl, and Laura (David) Haines Walkup of Pamplico, 5 grandchildren: Matthew, Emily and Jessica Haines, Hunter Baxley and Anna (Jacob) Walkup and 3 great grandchildren: Kasen, Easton and TJ and a great grandchild on the way, Kane. A service of life celebration will be held Thursday, January 11, 2024, at 2:00 pm at Pamplico United Methodist Church, 105 W. Third Avenue, Pamplico, SC, directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Woodside Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church from 1:00 -2:00 pm and at other times at the home at 820 Vivian Road. Pamplico.
