Mrs. Alma Young Campbell left her earthly home on Tuesday, November 29, 2022, at the McLeod Hospice House. She was born June 6, 1935 and was blessed to have 87 wonderful years on this earth. She was the daughter of the late John Henry and Lillie Mae Gardner Young. She spent her early years growing up in Timmonsville, South Carolina and graduated from Timmonsville High School. She married John Garrison Campbell on November 25, 1954. They began their marriage living in Texas, where he served in the Army. When they returned from Texas, they made their home in Pamplico, South Carolina. She started out as a homemaker and mother raising their three children. She was a member of Pamplico First Baptist Church where she served many roles. She sang in the choir, worked as church secretary and served as church clerk for 25 years. Through the years she enjoyed working at the school district office, the tobacco warehouse sales during the summer and the Pamplico Bank and Trust Company, which later became The Citizens Bank from which she retired. Alma was well known in her community for the wonderful caramel cake she made and brought to many events. Alma spent the last 4 years living at the Florence Presbyterian Community. She enjoyed her time there and made many new friends with the residents and staff. Our family appreciates the love shown to our mother. Alma is survived by her son, John Joseph (Tammie) Campbell, her daughters Barbara (Bill) Triplett, and Mary Gibson. She is also survived by her sister Johnnie Welch, Peggy Perez, and brother Mike Young. She has 8 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. She also leaves 2 wonderful sister in laws, Joyce Rogers and Juliette Campbell. Alma was predeceased in death by her husband of 60 years John, brother Bill Young, and sister Dorthy Jean Joyner. The family would like to thank the staff at McLeod Emergency Department and hospital for excellent care she received in the last 5 months and the McLeod Hospice House for the excellent care she received and for the love shown to our family during her last weeks. There will be a graveside at 11:00 am Thursday, December 1, 2022, at Willow Creek Baptist Church. Where she will be laid to rest next to her husband.
