Anna Mcelveen Matthews

Anna McElveen Matthews, 86, of Florence, SC passed away Friday, March 14, 2025. Born in Sumter County, she was the daughter of the late Mary McElveen and Jessie David McElveen. She was raised by her aunt, Nina McElveen and was a member of Shiloh Christian Church. She worked at Swamp Fox Fireworks and lived up and down the East Coast as a Coast Guard wife, where she made many friends along the way. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sons, Carl L. Matthews, Steve E. Matthews and Darryl L. Matthews; brother, Ronald McElveen; and a granddaughter, Hannah Matthews. Surviving are her son, David (Nancy) Matthews of Hartsville, SC; brother, Frankie McElveen of Tampa, FL; sisters, Marty Nebel of Manassas, VA and Linda Ruffin of Columbia, SC; grandchildren, Ashley Fowler, Grace Matthews, Liza Kelly, and Caitlin Luther; and ten great grandchildren. The family will receive friends 5: 00 – 7:00 PM Monday, March 17, 2025, at Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home in Florence, SC.
