Anton John Thompson, Jr.

ANTON JOHN THOMPSON, JR. FLORENCE, SC ANTON JOHN THOMPSON, JR., 88, of Florence, died Saturday evening, October 8, 2011 at Laurel Gardens Assisted Living after a brief battle with cancer. Mr. Thompson was born in Parkland, Washington on May 13, 1923 to Anton John Thompson, Sr., and Marie (Hansen) Thompson of Oslo Norway. Mr. Thompson married the former Gertrude Alice Stacy of Arkansas City, Kansas, in 1952. He was a US Air Force veteran of the Korean War. He retired from the US Air Force after serving more than 20 years. After retirement, Mr. Thompson and his wife traveled the country before settling in Florence, South Carolina. Mr. Thompson is survived by his wife of 59 years, Gertrude Alice Stacy Thompson of Florence, South Carolina, daughter Barbara Jean Culton of Cranston, Rhode Island, son Stacy John (Loretta) Thompson of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, daughter Teri Beth (Wes) Bell of Anchorage, Alaska. Grandchildren William (Lisa) Culton, Nancy (Fred) Groeger, Brian (Tanya) Bell, Joy (Casey) Chambers, and John Thompson. Mr. Thompson was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Armand, Marvin, Herbert Thompson, and his sister Sophia Reid. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
