Avis Simmons Petrotta

Avis Simmons Petrotta, 87, of Florence, SC passed away on Monday, February 21, 2022. Mrs. Petrotta was born in Effingham, SC a daughter of the late Ameriziah Simmons and AniLee Matthews Simmons.She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church, had worked for the City and County of Florence and retired from McLeod Regional Medical Center.Avis was a loving mother, wife, and friend.The family wishes to extend a special thanks to McLeod Hospital and to Jessie Tanner of McLeod Hospice. She was preceded in death by her parents and by her brother, Zeke Simmons. Surviving are her husband, George Petrotta of Florence; daughters, Avis Lynn (Mike) Wainright, Sheila Watson, Lisa Lawless, Geordan Petrotta, and Natasha (Eddie) Shannon; grandchildren, Clayton (Amanda) Wainright and Jennifer (William) Griffith; great-grandchild, Addison Griffith; grandpuppy, Bella; special friends, Sylvia and Anthony Lawson, Dottie (Leo) O’Neal, Brian Penick and family, Dr. Brian Wall and family, Glen Wall and family, and Melvin Wells and family; the Grieco family, the Petrotta family. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, www.stjude.org. The family will receive friends from 10:00 am to 11:00 am Thursday, February 24, 2022 at Immanuel Baptist Church with the service to be held at 11:00 am in the church sanctuary.Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery.
