On Tuesday, October 8, 2024, our family’s legend, Benjy, gained his eternal residence in heaven. Benjamin J (Benjy) Morris, Jr, 62, was born in Florence on February 12, 1962, to the late Benjamin James and Lillian Exie Turner Morris. He grew up, attended school, and remained in the Tans Bay area of Florence his whole life. It became apparent to all his cousins in his childhood years that he would permanently be considered the “baby” by the elder Morris family. Of course, they always ragged him about this and never let him forget how spoiled he had been. As all would see in the years to come, even to his age of 62, he still thought he needed to be spoiled. By many, he still was – especially in his last days by the precious and priceless attentiveness provided by family and caregivers. Benjy was athletic all through his younger years, that also carried into his adult years. And he took it seriously! During his high school years, he is best remembered as being a catcher for the South Florence Bruins, Class of 1980 – good ole #18. He developed several friendships in both teammates and their coach, that carried beyond the high school days. Many memories of laughter, fun, too many adult beverages, and mischievousness were the topic of conversations many times. His other passion was beach time whether he was going full-speed ahead or relaxing with his loved ones! Oh, the memories there and glad the walls can’t talk. Benjy LIVED life – he didn’t just exist. In his older years, his passion became football and motorcycles. He still loved the game of baseball, but since he was not playing and getting the attention, he decided to shift his interests. Guess it took this long for him to learn he was no longer the “baby”. Benjy became a die-hard fan of the Gamecocks football and purchased a Harley Davidson. He absolutely loved sports, but nothing compared to a good UofSC football game and ride on his beloved Harley. Benjy may have loved sports, Gamecocks, beach time, and a good motorcycle ride, but his family was his heart. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Lillian, his sister, Cathy, grandparents, several aunts and uncles, and cousins. He leaves behind, for now, a family to cherish memories of fun, laughter, and even sad times as that too is in the beauty of life. He is survived by his wife, Peggy Chavis Morris, to which he always addressed lovingly as his “bride”; his daughters Ashley (Michael) Morris, Stephany (Ryder) Morris, and Carri Frost; grandchildren Turner, Chandlyr, Lillyanna, Emmyt, Mikey, Jacob, Shane, Jodie Lee (Evan), Austin, and Anna Grace; and one great-grand Kenlee Kate. The family is now left to feel and understand the statement Benjy made to them in his last days. He said, “When I’m gone, the legend will be no more”. See ya later, BB. Thank you for the “legend” memories. The family will receive friends 6:00 - 8:00 PM Friday, October 11, 2024 at Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home.
