B.R. "Rex" Hobgood Pamplico, S.C. B.R. "Rex' Hobgood, 86, beloved father, husband, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully Friday, May 6, 2011 at his home in Pamplico, surrounded by his family and his pastor. Rex was born January 28, 1925, in Rocky Mount, N.C., the son of the late Charles Bixler and Annie Dare Hornaday Hobgood. He was the Branch Manager of Unijax (Now UniSource) inSavannah, Georgia. During his 19 years in Savannah, he was surrounded by a loving family of salespeople who thought of him as a father. Upon retirement, he made his home in Pamplico. He was a US Army Air Corps veteran of WWII, serving with the 86th Fighter-Bomber Group and the 527th Fighter-Bomber Squadron "The Invaders" in Italy, Africa, Corsica, France and Germany. Rex was an avid sports fan of his alma mater, The University of North Carolina Tar Heels, as well as the Atlanta Braves. He was a member of Peace Free Will Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 3 brothers, William, C.B. and Richard, his granddaughter, Stacey Hobgood, and best friend Dumpy Johnson of Durham, N.C. Mr. Hobgood is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years, Louise Haynes Hobgood; a son, Charles Richard (Deborah) Hobgood of Leesville, S.C.; a daughter, Ann (Tommy) Cupstid of Pooler, GA; 5 grandchildren, Scott McCravy, Lindsey Hobgood, Katie, Emily and Bobby Cupstid; great-grandson, Jonathan Cupstid; his only living sibling, Paula Pickerill of Orlando, FL, and several nephews. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, May 9, 2011 at Peace Free Will Baptist Church in Florence. Burial will follow in Mt. Elon Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery, near Pamplico, directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.
