Buren T. Rothwell, Sr.

BUREN T. ROTHWELL, SR. Coward, S.C. BUREN THORNTON ROTHWELL, SR., of Coward, died Wednesday, December 8, 2010, after an illness. Mr. Rothwell was born in Lumberton, North Carolina, a son of the late Joe D. Rothwell and Mattie Bell Hulon Rothwell.He was a veteran of the US Navy and retired from the US Army, having served in Vietnam.He was a member of D.A.V. Chapter 11, Franklin D. Roosevelt Chapter and VFW Post #3181.Mr. Rothwell was a 33rd Degree Mason, a Shriner, a lifetime member of the NRA and a member of the FFA. He was of the Catholic faith.He was a teacher of heating and air conditioning at Florence Area Vocational Center. He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Brian Rothwell. Surviving in addition to his mother, are his wife of over 52 years, Sondraleen Joyce Lee Rothwell of the home; his sons, Buren T. "B.T." (Corbett)Rothwell, Jr. of Florence, SC,Joe M. Rothwell of Davie, Florida, Lorne D. Rothwell of Lake City, SC, Joshua T. Rothwell of Coward, SC, a brother, Dr. Joseph M. "Mike" Rothwell of Sevierville, TN, and grandchildren, Colin Scott Finlayson and Caitlyn "Eyeball" Savannah Rothwell. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 181 E. Evans, Ste C-2, BTC-045, Florence, SC 29506 and the American Diabetes Association, 1701 N. Beauregard Street, Alexandria, VA 22311. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, December 10, 2010 in the Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home Chapel.Burial with full military rites will follow at Florence National Cemetery directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home.
