Callie Elizabeth Weatherford, 7, of Florence, gained her angel wings on May 18, 2024, after a 16-month battle with a brain tumor. Callie was born on April 18, 2017, and has been a joy and a light since the moment she was born. She gave the best hugs and had a million-watt smile. To know Callie was to love her. She enjoyed crafting and making things. She loved to draw pictures and make cards for the people she loved. On the weekends, you could find her at the lake enjoying life or cheering on the Gamecocks! She loved singing and dancing and was as sweet and sassy as any little girl should be. She deeply cared for her stuffies and babies and wouldn't go anywhere without one, especially her special Lamby. Callie was a Calvary Baptist Church member and loved attending church to sing and learn about God. In January of 2023, Callie was diagnosed with DIPG (Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma), an aggressive brain tumor. This brain tumor does not have any cure and has an average life expectancy of 9 months. Callie went to St Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, where she underwent the only standard of care available: radiation. She rocked her radiation and came home in time for a Make-A-Wish trip for her 6th birthday! Shortly after that, Callie was the first child in the United States to participate in a clinical trial at Children's National Hospital in Washington, D.C. She had three treatments, including chemo and a focused ultrasound. She made history, and we are so proud of her for her bravery. Unfortunately, shortly after the trial was over, a second tumor was discovered. Callie underwent more radiation and began hospice care. She was always the perfect patient and would have any of her medical team members wrapped around her fingers shortly after they met her. Callie is preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Joseph (Joey) and Sheila Weatherford Sr. She is survived by her parents, Joseph (Joey) and Stephanie Weatherford Jr.; Grandparents, John and Gina Ham; a brother, Joseph Weatherford; Aunts and Uncles, Forrest and Ashleigh Ham, Justin and Brittany Weatherford, and Russell Hunsucker; Cousins, Evans Ham and Ansleigh, Jackson, and John Weatherford. She is further survived by more great-grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins than a girl could ever want. She deeply loved her family and loved spending time with each and every one of them. If you asked her what she wanted to do, she would often say, "See my cousins." Callie's family would like to thank St. Jude Children's Hospital in Memphis, TN, and the affiliate clinic at Novant Health in Charlotte, NC, for Callie's care. They would also like to thank Children's National Hospital in Washington, D.C., for trying to find a cure for DIPG. Her family would also like to thank Hands of Hope Pediatric Hospice Care for the love and support given to Callie and her family. Callie's family would also like to thank the community for their outpouring of love and support on this journey. In lieu of flowers, her family would ask that you make a donation in her honor to one of these fantastic foundations: The Cure Starts Now, The ChadTough Foundation, or Make-A-Wish South Carolina. Callie's life will be celebrated on Saturday, May 25th at Calvary Baptist Church, 915 Cherokee Road, Florence, SC 29505. There will be a visitation in the Collins Family Life Center from 1:00-3:00, with the celebration to follow at 3:00 directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home.
