Calvin Boone Orr Jr.

Calvin Boone Orr Jr., 62, of Florence, SC passed away late Saturday, December 16, 2023. Cal was born on December 29th, 1960, to the late Calvin Boone Orr Sr. and Dr. Theodosia Gailey Orr. He grew up in Columbia, SC attending Hammond Academy and later the University of South Carolina where he received his Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy in 1985. He attended First Baptist Church in Columbia where he met his wife, Renée. Together they moved to Spartanburg where his 3 children were born, and he began his career at Spartanburg Regional Hospital as a clinical pharmacist. Cal was ordained as a deacon at First Baptist Church, and he was involved in the choir. He moved his family to Florence in 1994 to start a new position at McLeod Regional Medical Center. Cal started as a clinical pharmacist, additionally earning his Doctor of Pharmacy degree in 2006 from The University of Florida. He later transitioned to Pharmacy Informatics before he retired in December of 2022 after 28 years at McLeod. In Florence the family attended First Baptist Church before Renee was called to play piano at Southside Baptist Church. Cal served faithfully in various capacities for 27 years including deacon and choir member. He was a devoted father and husband who made his faith in Christ a priority. Following his retirement, Cal further explored his interests in photography and genealogy. Nothing made him happier than being with his kids and grandkids who he loved by sharing his wisdom and humor. He left a godly legacy behind with friends and family often describing him as a gentle soul, funny, dependable, and thoughtful mentor. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother Preston James Orr. He is survived by his beloved wife Renée Orr; sons Andrew (April) Orr of Simpsonville, SC and Bradley (Rachel) Orr of Flat Rock, NC; daughter Caroline (Tripp) Perkins of Simpsonville, SC; grandchildren McCall, Mattie Jane, and Bowen Orr, Hadley and Walker Perkins, and a Baby Boy Orr due in February; and sister Susan (Steve) Irwin of Charlotte, NC.
