Carol McElveen Porter, 87, of Florence, South Carolina, passed away Saturday, April 20, 2024. Mrs. Porter was born in Florence County, the daughter of the late Merritt McElveen and Mahaley Floyd McElveen. She lived in Florence most of her life, only moving away to Hartsville for five years. She loved all kinds of flowers, plants, and gardening. She was a former member of North Hartsville Church and Peace Free Will Baptist Church. She was a devoted wife and mother. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her loving husband of 50 years, James “J.F.” Porter, Jr.; son, James D. Porter; daughter, Debra Blackmon; brothers, Buck, John and Woody McElveen; sisters, Jenny Parrott, and Jackie McInville; and dear friends, Mr., and Mrs. Glenn Gardner. Surviving are her sons, Larry (Paige) Porter, Tony (Cindy) Porter, and Andy (Samantha) Porter; daughters, Bonnie P. Rogers, Jane (Robert) Beasley; daughter-in-law, Kim Porter; 15 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sister, Janice Langston; and beloved friend Bonnie Mae Wilkes.
