Carolyn Sue Salyer, 83, of Florence SC went to see her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on October 22, 2022 at 12:20 PM at McLeod Regional Medical Center. Sue was born Carolyn Sue Hatcher, May 19, 1939, the fourth child of Norman and Alberta Hatcher. She completed elementary school in Westwood and Ashland, Kentucky. Sue studied Religious Music at New Orleans Baptist Seminary and received her Music Teaching Certificate from Coker College of Music in Hartsville, South Carolina. In addition to teaching Piano Music in La Place, Louisiana and Florence, South Carolina, she assisted bank and corporate officers as their secretary, including ESAB in Florence, SC. She’s been an active Christian in the Church of Christ in Westwood Kentucky, the First Presbyterian Church in Parkersburg, West Virginia, the First Baptist Church in La Place, Louisiana, the First Baptist Church of Florence, SC, and the Ebenezer Baptist Church of Florence, SC. She also served as Finance Chairman in two churches and sang in the choirs of all the churches. Sue was instrumental in bringing Hand Bells to Ebenezer Baptist Church and sang in the Masterworks Choir. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, James Brian Salyer, and three siblings, Richard Hatcher, Robert Hatcher, and Betty Fosson. Sue is survived by her husband of 64 years, Roger Allen Salyer; their son, John Salyer (wife, Tina, and daughters, Madison and Emma); daughter, Pamela Salyer (son, James, daughters, Brianna and Makayla, and step-son, Nicklaus). In addition, surviving are her deceased brother, Bob and his deceased wife, Jean Hatcher’s children, son, Robbie Hatcher (wife and five children) and daughter, Sandy Hatcher Vanhoose (husband, Robert and their three sons); deceased sister, Betty and her deceased husband, Ralph “Peck” Fosson’s children, son, Mark Fosson (daughter, Ashley Baker and her husband, Matt and their children), son, Scott Fosson (wife, Anna and their children, Christopher Fosson (wife Erin, and their two sons) and Brooke Fosson Groves (her two children)), son, Lee Fosson (wife, Merty and his children, Paige Fosson and Madison Fosson). The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:00 am Wednesday, October 26, 2022 at Ebenezer Baptist Church with the service to be held at 11:00 am in the old sanctuary of the church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home.
