Charles Edward Hall, 83, died at his home in Florence on Wednesday, March 19, 2025. He was born in Charleston, SC on November 11, 1941, to Mary Othella (Bootle) and Samuel Robert Hall, Sr. Most of his adult life was spent either in South or North Carolina. An avid sailor, he served in the U.S. Navy for two years on a submarine, SS Darter 576. His love of sailing and being on the water continued throughout his life, culminating in a seven-year adventure aboard M/V Legacy, a 40’ motor yacht whose home port was St. Augustine, Florida. He earned his Captain’s License in 1994. Charles was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Samuel Robert Hall, Jr. and John Franklin Hall. He is survived by Linda L. Wills, his wife of 40 years, whom he first married on May 5, 1985; daughter, Margaret Lyla Hall and partner, Ken Jacquot; three grandchildren, Memékas, Temé, and Yona Boyland; brother, Alan Eugene Hall and family; and several nieces, nephew, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins. Most of his working life was spent either in retail sales or construction. His passions included driving British cars, participating in car-club activities, and tinkering on endless projects. Charles attended Clemson University and was a dedicated Tiger fan. A “cradle to grave” Episcopalian, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and caring for a series of cat companions. All who knew and loved him will miss his unpretentious nature and naturally friendly personality. His funeral will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, March 25th, at St. Catherine Episcopal Church, 1806 Palmetto Street, Florence SC. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Catherine’s. Stoudenmire-Dowling is assisting the family.
