CHARLES S. SCHOFIELD Charles Stikeleather Schofield, 93, of Florence, died Sunday, September 19, 2010 after a long illness. Born on December 21, 1916 in Florence, he was the son of the late Robert Pace and Ivey Stikeleather Schofield. He was a member of Central United Methodist Church. In 1944, Mr. Schofield enlisted in the United States Army, serving his country during World War II while stationed in New Guinea. After the war, he returned to Florence and operated Schofield Hardware with his brother Robert P. Schofield Jr. until 1967. Mr. Schofield also formerly owned and operated the Heritage Inn & Restaurant in Florence. In 1985 he was a co-founder of Carolina Supply House, Inc. where he remained active until his illness forced his retirement. Mr. Schofield was married to Elizabeth Cooper Cooke for 58 years until her death in 1999. Survivors include two sons; C. Marshall (Paula) Schofield and James T. (Martha) Schofield, both of Florence; three Grandchildren; Elizabeth S. (Michael) Hopla, Kistler Schofield, and C. William Schofield, and one Great-Grandchild, Haleigh A. Schofield of Florence. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6-8:00 P.M. at Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, September 22, 2010 in Central United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Pee Dee Area Big Brothers, 110 Toledo Rd.
