Daniel (Dan) John Corkery, 93, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home surrounded by loving family and friends on March 24, 2024. He was born in Mt. Holly, New Jersey on August 28, 1930, 3 minutes after his identical twin brother, John (Jack) Daniel to Anna Marie and Charles Patrick Corkery. Dan lived a full and vibrant life, from beginning to end and touched the lives of many people along the way. As a young man he enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1949. Shortly thereafter he was sent to Korea. In 1961, while stationed in Mannheim, Germany he met the love of his life, Inge Margareta Lamour. They married on June 15, 1964and were the proud parents of Charlotte, Anna and Daniel. He proudly and honorably served in the U.S Army for 24 years, retiring in 1974. He was a highly decorated Soldier, serving in Korea, 2 year-long deployments in Viet Nam, several tours in Germany and many stateside bases including Fort Bragg, Fort Dix, and Fort Belvoir. After his retirement from the U.S. Army, he began his second career for the Georgia State Department of Unemployment from 1975 to 2001. Dan was always a dapper dresser, had a quirky and endearing sense of humor which included knock-knock jokes, puns and playing little pranks on his kids (which often included his twin brother, Jack). In his young parent years, he taught his children to play chess, enjoy jig saw puzzles and card games and the Jersey shore. Vacations were often to historical landmarks in the U.S and abroad, which were intended to be both fun and educational. He was a patriot. He was an affectionate family man with a deep love and pride in his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. In his golden years, Dan enjoyed taking destination trips to meet his twin, Jack and family. Get togethers included lots of card games, food and family fellowship. The “Twins” were beloved wherever they went. Daniel was predeceased by his parents Anna and Charles Corkery, his sister Anna Corkery, his brother Charles Corkery, his sister Miriam Noonan, his twin brother Jack Corkery and his grandson, Beau Parker. He leaves behind his loving wife, Inge; his children, Charlotte Parker (husband Eddy-deceased), Anna Sellers (husband Chris), Daniel Corkery (wife Chiqui); his grandchildren Benjamin Parker, Gretchen Corkery, Cody Sellers (wife Megan), Alyssa Corkery and Daniel Corkery; his great grandchildren Alexander, Oliver and Lilly Sellers; his nephew Jack Corkery (wife Patty) and his niece Christine Sherf (husband Tom).
