Danny Oneil Matthews Sr.

Danny Oneil Matthews Sr, 80, of Florence, SC passed away Friday, September 15, 2023. He was born in Florence, SC, the son of the late Edward Matthews and Era Irean Evans. He spent his life welding with Nucor for over 40 years and was tough as the metal he worked with. He loved his children, and his dog Cindy. He loved spending the day out in his yard, laughing and getting together with family and friends to share stories about the old days. Mr. Matthews was preceded in death, by his wife, Frances Bristow Matthews; brother, Billy Matthews; and sister, Betty Flores. Surviving are sons, Danny (Janet) Matthews, Jr. and Johnny (Frances) Matthews; daughter, Tammie (Steve) Vanetta; grandchildren, Kristin McGee, Jordan Matthews, David (Angel) McGee, Justin McGee, Brandon Matthews, Dakota (Kendel) Vanetta, Haley Matthews, Caleb Vanetta, Austin Matthews, Dylan Matthews; great- grandchildren, Stephanie Lewis, Jayden Lewis, Hope McGee, Abigail Huffman, Jo’hanna Huffman, Faith McGee, Graceson McGee, Laurie Lea McGee, Araya McGee; siblings, Rudy Flores and Gloria Matthews. The family will receive friends 10:00 – 11:00 AM Wednesday, September 20, 2023, at Stoudenmire- Dowling Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, September 20, 2023, at the funeral home. Burial to follow at High Hill Cemetery, 1176 Myrtle Beach Hwy, Scranton, SC, 29591.
