David Alton Overton, Jr., aged 85, passed away peacefully at McLeod Hospice House on September 5, 2024. Born on November 3, 1938, David was a proud native of Florence, South Carolina, and a graduate of McClenaghan High School. David furthered his education at the University of South Carolina, where he earned his degree before attending American University Law School in Washington, D.C. He also served his country with honor in the U.S. Army National Guard. His job with Marine Services Unlimited, allowed him to live all over the United States. David loved history and U.S. Politics. Every night you could find him changing channels between all the political shows. He loved nothing more than spending his weekends watching college football, especially cheering on his beloved Gamecocks and Crimson Tide. David is survived by his loving sisters, Jane McKissick and Shirley Piland, as well as his nieces and nephews: David McKissick, Charles Piland, Emily Wilcox (Scott), and Mark Piland (Jody). He was also cherished by his great-nieces and nephews: Zachary Lee, Parker Lee, and Ellie McKissick, all of whom will fondly remember his warmth, wisdom, and stories. David's life will be celebrated at a private family ceremony. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His memory will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
