DEMETRE "JIM" NIKOLAKAKOS FLORENCE, S.C. JIM NIKOLAKAKOS, 74, of Florence, died Monday, May 16, 2011 in a Florence hospital after an illness. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, May 20, 2011 at the Transfiguration of Our Savior Greek Orthodox Church. Burial will follow in Florence Memorial Gardens. A Trisagion service will be held at 6:00 P.M. Thursday in the chapel of Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home where the family welcomes family and friends to attend and participate.Visitation will follow until 8:00 P.M. Mr. Nikolakakos was born in Liantina, Sparta, Greece, a son of the late George and Sophia Kastri Nikolakakos. He immigrated to the U.S. in 1956, moved to Canada, then returned to the U.S. in 1960. He owned and operated the Francis Marion Restaurant in Marion for 35 years until his retirement in 2000. He was a member of the Transfiguration of Our Savior Greek Orthodox Church in Florence. He is survived by his wife, Katie Thompson Nikolakakos of Florence; 3 children, Patty N. (Robert) Seastrunk of Florence, George J. (Glenda) Nikolakakos of Florence, MSgt. Pete J. (Christina) Nikolakakos of Navarre, FL; 3 brothers; Panagiotis Nikolakakos of Sparta, Greece, Albert Nikolakakos of Ontario, Canada, and Nikolas "Nick" Nikolakakos of Florence; 7 sisters; Amalia Tsanetou of Sparta, Greece, Politimi Hristophilakis Nikolakakos, Eleni Retsinas, and Alexandra Moisakos, all of Ontario, Canada, Ellie Bakis of Florence, Julia Zourzoukis of Asheville, N.C. and Artemisia Panagos of Palm Harbour, FL; 8 grandchildren, Jessica Sullivan, Jamie Seastrunk, Julia Seastrunk, Joanna Nikolakakos, Maria Nikolakakos, Eleni Nikolakakos, Andrea Nikolakakos, Christina Nikolakakos and a grandson who is expected in July, 2011; 23 nieces, 19 nephews and 69 great nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to the St. Demetrios Memorial Fund at the Transfiguration of Our Savior Greek Orthodox Church, 2990 South Cashua Drive, Florence, SC29501.
