Regina Elizabeth Yanson, PhD, 44, of Florence, passed away at home surrounded by family and friends on Saturday, December 9, 2023 after a brief illness. Dr. Yanson was born in New Hartford, New York a daughter of the late Jerome Cosentino and Mary Lou Beard Cosentino. A professor at Francis Marion University for twelve years, she was deeply devoted to the educational success and well-being of her students, as well as a prolific and impactful research partner. She traveled extensively and while she never turned down an opportunity to experience a new culture, she still enjoyed a good, home-cooked meal celebrated with family and friends. Surviving her are husband, Logan Yanson of Florence; daughters, Madeline Yanson and Charlotte Yanson; brothers, Jerome Cosentino of Deansboro, New York and Nicholas Cosentino of Webster, New York; and sister, Patricia Stonebraker of Buffalo, New York. Dr. Yanson requested that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her memory to the Francis Marion University First Generation Fund. The Fund is designated to help FMU Students who are the first in their family to attend college and was a cause near and dear to her heart. A memorial service will be held at Saint Anthony’s Catholic Church at 2536 Hoffmeyer Road in Florence, South Carolina at 11 AM on Saturday, January 27th.
