Ethel Cockfield Stokes

ETHEL COCKFIELD STOKES FLORENCE, SC ETHEL COCKFIELD STOKES, 91, of Florence, died Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at her residence after an illness. Mrs. Stokes was born in Florence, SC, daughter of the late Ben Traxler and Alice Verline Poston Cockfield;. She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, the Jimmy McNair Sunday School Class, member of United Methodist Women and Joy Club. Mrs. Stokes was former secretary/treasurer for the Ladies Trainman Auxiliary and was also a member of Oakdale Ladies Golf Association. Mrs. Stokes was known as "grandmama" to everyone who knew her. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Stokes is preceded in death by her husband, Hazel Carison Stokes, a brother, Charles Deleon Cockfield, and two sisters, Louise Cockfield DuBose and Grace Cockfield Knowlton. Mrs. Stokes is survived by her son, William Carison "Billy" (Amy ) Stokes of Eatonton, GA; daughter, Hulda S. (John) Klumas of Florence;three grandchildren, Carison Stokes of Oakland, CA; Celeste K. (David) Witherspoon of Pamplico, Ashley Klumas of Darlington, ; twogreat-grandchildren, Mary Hanna Witherspoon of Pamplico, John Taylor Lancaster of Darlington ; sister, Jessie Habib of Florence; two brothers, Bennie T. (Martha) Cockfield of Springfield, VA, Richard (Dottie) Cockfield of Birmingham, AL and several close nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held 12:00PM, Friday, May 13, 2011 at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Florence, burial will follow at Florence National Cemetery directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home. The family will receive friends 7-9PM Thursday at the funeral home and other times at her daughters residence.
