Rev. Frank Eugene (Gene) Brown, Jr was born on December 16, 1949, in Effingham SC and lived most of his life in Florence, SC. Gene went home to be with the Lord on September 29, 2024. He owned businesses in automobile sales and paint and body work and was a tanker driver. Gene returned to school later in life and graduated with his Bachelor of Science in Bible and Theology from Lee University in Cleveland TN in 2012. Following his calling, Gene completed his ministerial preparation studies to become an Ordained Minister with the Church of God and pastored several years before retiring. Gene enjoyed spending time with his family/grandchildren, taking long rides in the country reminiscing on his childhood, and barbecuing a pig at Christmas to share with family and friends. He loved his Lord first and would share with anyone who would listen about how God had miraculously transformed him through a “Damascus Road” experience in 1991. Gene served his Lord faithfully since that time and was a member of the Church of God in Florence, Dillon and Hickory Tavern, SC. He was preceded in death by his oldest daughter, Kimberly Dawn Brown White, his parents, Frank Eugene Brown, Sr and Myrtle Lee Sims Ackerman, his brother, Walter Allen Brown, and his brother-in-law, William Browder. Gene is survived by his wife of the home, Sharon Marley Brown, his children, Lisa (Tim) Stephens of Florence, Ronald (Ashley) Brown of Aynor, Nicholas (Emily) Brown of Arrington, TN, Andrew (Stacey) Gonzalez of Myrtle Beach and Elizabeth Gonzalez (Patrick Brown) of Summerville SC, his grandchildren, Samantha and Joshua Stephens, Kailey and Harper Lee Brown, Lily and Henry Brown, Elijah, Evelyn and Ember Gonzalez and Marley Gonzalez, three sisters, Patricia (Bob) Summers of Sumter, Margaret Browder of Columbia, and Vicki Tippins of Florence, along with his nieces and nephews. He leaves a legacy of commitment to God and family, hard work and perseverance as was evidenced by his later-in-life college enrollment and pursual of a lifelong dream to preach the Gospel. Memorial contributions may be made to a church or charity of one’s choice. The family will receive friends Wednesday, October 2, 2024, from 1:00 – 2:00 PM at Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home with the service to follow at 2:00 PM in the funeral home Chapel. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery.
