GAYE BARFIELD JOHNSON Florence, S.C. Gaye Barfield Johnson, 62, of Florence, died Monday, November 1, 2010 in a Florence hospital after an illness. Gaye was born in Bennettsville, a daughter of the late John H. and Elease Collins Barfield. She was a member of Florence Baptist Temple for over 34 years, having served on the Sunday School and Bus Ministries. She had been a secretary for Professional Service Industries, and then worked for Assurant. Surviving are her children; Sandy (Jonathan) Oliver and Todd “Tex” (Sheila) Johnson, both of Florence; 2 grandchildren; Christina Oliver and Cassidy Oliver; her sister, Agnes (Jim) Bundy of Bennettsville, 4 step-grandsons, 2 step-great-granddaughters; and special friends, Doug and Jane Roberts of Florence. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Tex W. Johnson. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, November 4, 2010 in the Florence Baptist Temple. Burial will follow in Florence Memorial Gardens, directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home.
