Gene Franklin Askins

Gene Franklin Askins, 94, of Marion, SC, passed away on Sunday, September 17, 2023. He was born in Florence County, SC, the son of the late Fred Ernest Askins and Edith Bailey Askins. He was the oldest member of Elim Baptist Church. Mr. Askins was also a member of the Senior Adult Men’s Sunday School Class. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Ellen Dorothy Weatherford Askins; sisters, Hallie Benton and Eunice Singletary and brother, Marion Askins. Surviving are his sons, Franklin Ernest Askins of Timmonsville, SC, and Dexter Edward (Rachel) Askins, of Effingham, SC; daughter, Emma Jean (Glenn) Padgett, of Effingham, SC; grandchildren, Jimmy Keith Pierce, Jeanne Diane Pierce, Gabriel Santana Askins, and Dakota Askins; 3 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Shriners Hospital for Children, 950 West Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, Wednesday, September 20, 2023, at Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be held at 3:00 PM, Wednesday, September 20, 2023, in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow at the Garden of Memories.
