George William Laug, 94, of Florence, has gained his Heavenly wings. Mr. Laug was born in Croton-on-Hudson, NY, son of the late Josephine Klem Laug and George William Laug, Sr.He was a veteran of the US Navy serving from November 20, 1944 – August 3, 1964 and earned the rank of Chief Petty Officer.Mr. Laug was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church and retired as an air traffic controller. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his wife, Rita Gulia Laug and sister, Loretta Travis. Surviving are his sons; Stephen (Bernadette) Laug of St. Louis, MO, Mark Laug (Jane) of Florence, Thomas (Norey) Laug of Slidell, LA and Matthew Laug of Sherman Oaks, CA; daughters; Judy (Mitchell) Calhoun of Florence and B.J. (Curt) Gowdy of Lake City; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and sister, Frieda Battipaglia of South Kent, CT. Graveside service, with military honors, will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, October 6, 2021, at Florence National Cemetery directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home.
