Gloria Jean Floyd

d. March 12, 2023

Ms. Gloria Jean Alford Floyd, age 80, passed away on Sunday, March 12, 2023, at McLeod Hospice House surrounded by her loving family. Born in Lumberton, North Carolina, she was a daughter of the late Hopkin Alford and Ina McDaniel Jones. She retired after 30 plus years of dedicated service from Kens Corner 2 (former Chase Oil BP), at the Francis Marion College location. During this time, she developed a friendship with many people, as they would stop by almost daily and lovingly referred to them as “my customers”. She was proud to be part of their daily routine and looked forward to hearing about the latest happenings in their lives. Gloria Jean was a previous member of Mizpah Baptist Church. In recent years, she enjoyed Effingham Church of God’s Sunday service through the church’s social media page, never missing a sermon. Rarely did you see her without her Clemson attire, as she was a die-hard Clemson Tigers fan. She loved watching the games while cheering at the top of her lungs! She understood the sport in detail, along with knowing each of the season’s players. Gloria Jean had an innocent, child-like love for all things- especially her family and friends. She possessed a selfless and humble nature that was shown through deeds of love and thoughtfulness. The love for her family was endless and pure. She was a Godly woman who’s advice was often “I’ll pray for you” and “Give it to God”. She rejoiced in knowing she would be going to heaven and looked forward to “seeing Jesus’s face”. She is preceded in death by her father and stepmother, Hopkin and Martha Alford; mother and stepfather, Ina McDaniel Jones and Malcolm M. Jones, Sr., a sister, Susan A. Dillon(Lacy); a stepbrother, Malcolm M. Jones Jr.; and her best friend of over 50 years, Gloria Rowell. She is survived by her best friend and loving daughter, Melissa McDaniel(Ralph Camus); step-sister Martha-Marie Davis(Berl); a very special niece and nephew, that she loved as her own, Tracy Grainger(Kent) and William “Billy” Dillon(Jennifer); 2 grandchildren, Noah and Ethan Camus; Nephew Michael Jones(Donna), Nieces Leeann Givens(Len), Pamela Jones, and Megan Floyd(John); a number of great-nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews. Also, her dear cousins, Diane Ingram, Carol Parke, and Patsy Watkins; as well as special friends, Sally Emanuel, Chintan Patel, Robin White, and her furry companion, Oliver. The family wishes to thank Dr. Mohamed Zein and Whitney Johnson, F.N.P for their excellent and compassionate medical care and especially their friendship throughout the years. A visitation will be held from 5-7 P.M. on Wednesday, March 15, 2023, at Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, March 16, 2023, at the Florence Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel, with Entombment to follow. Memorials are suggested to the McLeod Hospice House, 1203 E. Cheves Street, Florence, SC 29506 or to a “no kill” animal shelter of one’s choice. Please sign the Guest Book for the family at www.stoudenmiredowling.com
