Gregory Vincent Browning

Dr. Gregory Vincent Browning, 76, of Florence, SC, passed away on October 24, 2023. Dr. Browning was born the son of the late Walter Kisler Browning Jr. and Thelma Zeigler Browning. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his brother, Wesley Browning. Dr. Browning is survived by his son, Lieutenant Colonel Ross (Lauren) Browning; grandchildren, Caroline Browning, Cathryn Browning, and Baby Browning to arrive in March 2024; brothers, Wally (Lorraine) Browning III and Randall Browning; nephew, Walter Browning IV, and niece, Melanie (Trey) Jacks; former wife of 25 years, Rhonda Walfield Browning and significant other and best friend, Deborah Holcombe. Dr. Browning graduated from Summerville High School in 1965. He graduated from the Baptist College in Charleston, SC in 1969. After graduation, he returned to Summerville High School for a year to serve as the assistant band director. He graduated from the Medical University of SC (MUSC) School of Pharmacy in 1974. He practiced pharmacy for two years and then began medical school in 1976. Dr. Browning began his medical residency in 1981 at McLeod Hospital, specializing in family practice. He later practiced in Ehrhardt, and Spartanburg, SC. He moved back to Florence in 1986 and practiced in family medicine and opened his own practice in 1993, dealing in family medicine and pain management. He moved to Hope Health in 2013, specializing in diabetes and hypertension. He was the Chairman of the Pee Dee Mental Health Center Board of Directors and the Medical Director of Medical Services of America (MSA) Hospice. He attended Cornerstone Baptist Church, and he loved playing music to include the trumpet and piano, and practicing medicine. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to Cornerstone Baptist Church, 2930 Masters Way, Darlington, SC 29532. Family will receive friends from 3:00 – 4:30 pm on Friday, November 3, 2023, at Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home.
