Herbert Franklin McKissick, 94, passed away on Saturday, July 30, 2022, at MUSC in Florence. Mr. McKissick was born in Florence County to the late Ellie and Sophie Bailey McKissick.He was a US Army veteran and served during the Korean Conflict.He was very proud of his service to his country.He earned the Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars, United Nations Service Medal and National Defense Service Medal. He attended West Florence Church of God until his health started declining. He was a wonderful Christian man where his whole life was centered around God. He held many positions in the Church throughout the year.He always said the words he wanted to hear the most were “Welcome home my good and faithful Servant”. He retired from Tyler Plywood Company after 40 years of service. He was preceded in death by his parents. Ellie and Sophie McKissick; the love of his life, his wife, Mary Gray McKissick; his brother and sister-in-law, Ernest and Betty McKissick; and his son-in-law, Jerry L. Capps. He is survived by his daughters, Patricia Capps and Barbara (Danny) Conner of Florence; one grandson, Dr. Jeremy (Dina) Capps and one great-grandson from San Antonio, Texas; special niece and nephew, Janice Lamb and Ronnie McKissick; and special cousins he called “my boys” Larry and Jimmy McKissick. Visitation will be held from 1:00 – 2:00 PM on Tuesday, August 2, 2022, at Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home. Funeral Service will begin at 2:00 PM in the Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home Chapel.Burial will follow at Florence Memorial Gardens.
