Hubert Walter Black

March 18, 1957 — January 24, 2025

Hubert “Hubie” Walter Black, 67, of Florence, SC went to be with his Lord and Savior Friday morning, January 24, 2025, in a Florence hospital after an illness. Mr. Hubie was born in Florence, SC, a son of the late Hubert Fredrick Black and Lois Elizabeth Oakley Black. He was a member of Cypress Grove (formerly Lebanon Free Will Baptist Church). His primary years of work were in the hardwood floor business. He loved being a “Papa” and had great love for family and friends. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, a nephew and a number of uncles and aunts. Surviving are his wife, Margaret “Betsy” Black; three children, James Hyatt, Amanda Duren and Melissa Black; a son-in-law, C.P Duren and a daughter-in-law, Deana Hyatt all of Florence; five grandchildren; Elijah Duren, Anthony Duren, Sandi O’Steen, R.J. Hyatt and Bri Watkins; one great-grandson, Jackson Duren; two cousins who were like sisters to him; Vicky Gordon and Ettaphine McKnight and special fishing buddy, Ethan Powell. The family will receive friends 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM Sunday, January 26, 2025, at Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home. Funeral service will be 1:00 PM Monday, January 27, 2025, at Cypress Grove Church. Burial to follow at Florence Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Please feel free to come casual and comfortable as Hubie would have liked.
