HUBERT JOHN GARRETT Florence, S.C. Hubert John Garrett, 89, of Florence, died Tuesday, April 5, 2011 in a Florence nursing facility after an extended illness. Mr. Garrett was born in Florence County, a son of the late Robert A. and Mamie Collins Garrett. He was a member of Mizpah Baptist Church. He was a WWII Veteran of the US Army Air Corps, and had retired in 1981 as Shift Sergeant after 30 years with The Florence Police Department. He was a member of the Florence Retired Police Officers Assoc, was an avid fisherman and a longtime Braves fan. Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Jacquelyne Fore Garrett of Florence; Son; Hubert John (Sherry) Garrett, Jr. of Florence; Daughter Sylvia Garner of Melbourne, Fl; 4 Grandchildren; Hugh Garrett and Holly Kathryn Garrett of Florence; Garrett Garner of Gainesville, Fl. and Jacquelyne Garner of Melbourne, Fl; his sister, Mary Prosser of Jacksonville, Fl; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Gladys Garrett and his brothers; Bob, Fred, Maxcy, Harry and Frank Garrett. Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday, April 8, 2011 in the Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home.
