Ida Daphne Poston Friar

Ida Daphne Poston Friar, formerly of Effingham, SC passed away peacefully on Friday, April 28, 2023. She was a resident at The Retreat in Gaffney, SC where she was cared for with love and compassion. Mrs. Friar was born in Florence Co., SC the daughter of the late Edward Verner Poston and Essie Dellilon Coleman Poston. She grew up in Evergreen, SC and graduated from Tans Bay High School. Daphne was a homemaker in her early years and sold Avon products. Later, she was self-employed at Friar Insurance Agency until she retired at the age of 82. She was a long-time member of Elim Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School to the younger children. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Benny Ray Friar, Sr., and her brother, W.E. Poston. Surviving are her son, Benny Ray (Christine) Friar, Jr. and her daughter, Rhonda F. (Tim) Dickerson; grandchildren, Kimberly Dickerson (Brooks) Duffey, Matt (Kate) Dickerson, Elaina Friar (Kevin) Moyer, and Mary (Richard Mommi) Friar; and great-grandchildren, Dax Duffey, Arlie Duffey, and Wells Duffey. Memorials may be made to Elim Baptist Church, 1303 Olanta Highway, Effingham, SC 29541. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 7:00 pm Wednesday, May 3, 2023 at Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, May 4, 2023 at Elim Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
