Jack Clarence Zeigler Sr., 88, of Florence SC passed away on February 28, 2023. Mr. Zeigler (Jack) was born in Richmond County, NC a son of the late Lee Roy Zeigler and Ploma Newell Zeigler. He was married for 59 years to his loving, late wife, Ludean W. Zeigler. Hard-working, resourceful, and multi-talented, Jack started working at age 14 when he quit school for a construction job on a new school being built next door. He completed his high school education while working full time jobs with Dixie Cup in Darlington, SC, then Wilson Tree Company, Carolina Power & Light, Progress Energy and Duke Energy in Sumter and Florence SC. Jack started as a lineman with Carolina Power & Light and finished as a Contracts Administrator with Duke Energy. A life-long learner, Jack completed numerous courses at the Florence Darlington Technical College in everything from electrical wiring to small boat seamanship. An avid outdoorsman, he loved camping and fly fishing. He was a longtime member of the Woodstone Hunt Club. Most of all, Jack loved his family. He generously supported all his children’s school and extracurricular activities, regardless of the travel, expense, and time commitment. His joy in life was watching his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren grow and experience everything possible in life. He set the example for his children to follow by accepting leadership positions such as Clerk of Session at Parkwood Presbyterian Church and as President of the Woodstone Hunt Club. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by son-in-law, Greg Purvis, five brothers and two sisters. Surviving are his sons, Jack (Janice) Zeigler, Jr. and John Bural (Colleen S.) Zeigler; daughter, Elizabeth Ann Purvis; grandchildren Clint (Laurie) Parks, Austin (Christina) Parks, Lauren (Will) Haithcock, Jack Zeigler III, Kerry (Lillian) Zeigler, Kimberly B. (Thomas) Maternik-Piret, Shannon Zeigler and Ryan (Miranda) Zeigler; a growing number of great-grandchildren and his brother, Billy Zeigler. Pallbearers included Jack’s grandsons and great grandsons Clint Parks, Clint Parks Jr., Austin Parks and Sam Parks all of Florence, SC, Kerry Zeigler of Denver, CO and Jack Zeigler III of Clarksville, TN. Music was provided Jack’s grandson, Ryan Zeigler of Travelers Rest, SC and granddaughter Kimberly Maternik-Piret from Tuscaloosa, AL. Memorials may be made to Parkwood Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, 2307 South Cascade Avenue, Florence, SC 29505. The family will receive friends 1:00-2:00 PM Friday, 3 March at the Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home followed by a Service at 2:00 PM. Burial will follow at Mount-Hope Cemetery.
