James W. Matthews

James W. Matthews, 82, of Florence, SC, passed away on Monday, November 29, 2021. Mr. Matthews was the son of the late Mary Elizabeth Howard Matthews and James Cleveland Matthews. He was a member of the Florence Shag Club and an avid Gamecock fan. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his brother, James “Matt” Matthews; sister, Shirley Elizabeth Powers; and grandchild, Garrett Ray. Mr. Matthews is survived by his wife of 55 years, Ann Campbell Matthews; son, James Harlington Matthews (Robin) of Fayetteville, NC; daughter, Sara Denise Ray (Marvin Gale) of Hemingway, SC; grandchildren, Tyler Ray, Dustin Edward Matthews and Ariel Jade Smith; great-grandchildren, Melody Smith and Alex Smith; and brother, Charles C. Matthews (Jill) of Florence. Funeral Service will be held 2:00 PM Friday, December 3, 2021, at Mount Hope Mausoleum Chapel directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home.
