Jerry Herman Bailes Florence, SC Jerry Herman Bailes, 72, of Florence, passed away on Thursday, November 4, 2010 at the McLeod Hospice House after an illness. Mr. Bailes was born in Orangeburg, SC, a son of the late James Parkerson and Louise Smith Bailes.He was a graduate of Union High School and then received his B.S. in Dairy Science from Clemson University in 1961.He served in the National Guard for six years and received an honorable discharge.Mr. Bailes has held a number of leadership positions in SC including: all officer positions for South Carolina Dairy Tech Society; Plant Manager, Sealtest, Florence, South Carolina; Plant Manager, Flavorich, Florence, SC; Plant Manager, Pet Dairy, Florence, SC.Also, he worked in quality control and field maintenance for Borden’s in High point, NC; Sales and Service for Sepco Chemicals in Minneapolis, MN; and Quality Assurance for Rowan Dairy in Salisbury, NC.He was named in the 2006 Dairy Hall of Fame. He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Katherine McDowell Bailes. Surviving are his children, Susan (Jonathan) Boling and David Bailes both of Florence; a grandson, Stephen Dungee of Florence; three brothers, Jim (Sara) Bailes of Hendersonville, NC, Bill (Mona) Bailes of Fairfax, VA, and John (Mary) Bailes of Sumter; a number of nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 6, 2010 at Liberty Chapel United Methodist Church directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home.The family will receive friends immediately following the services and other times at the residence of Susan and Jonathan Boling.
