Jetty Rue Matthews Purvis

Jetty Rue Matthews Purvis, 81, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, March 18, 2022. Mrs. Purvis was born on August 3, 1940 in Johnsonville, SC, daughter of the late George Matthews and Pauline Carraway Matthews.She was a longtime member of Tabernacle United Methodist Church.Jetty was a loving, devoted, Christian wife and mother.She was a homemaker and farmer’s wife, and went on to retire from JC Penney’s as a professional seamstress.She always had an open heart and a helping hand.No one ever left her house hungry, especially without her biscuits. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Whiteford Leo Purvis; daughter, Rachel Purvis Fisher; 6 brothers, 1 sister, and 2 grandsons. She is survived by her three daughters, Wini (John) Brunson, Reva Baker, and Paula Martin; son, W.L. Purvis; 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 5 – 7 pm Sunday, March 20, 2022 at Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home and other times at the residence of Wini and John Brunson. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Monday at Tabernacle United Methodist Church, 6758 Francis Marion Road, Pamplico, SC29583.Burial will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the American Heart Association, www.heart.org.
