Joanne Gibbons McLaughlin

Elizabeth Joanne Gibbons McLaughlin, 76, of Florence, SC passed away Saturday, April 26, 2025.

Joanne was born in Manning, SC, the daughter of the late Dorothy Lee Gibbons and Bannie Elbert Gibbons.

She was an active member of Effingham Presbyterian Church, where she had served as church historian and treasurer for Woman of Church. She was also a member of the Woodman Auxiliary Chapter 52 of Effingham, SC. In 2010, she retired from BB&T after 43 years in banking.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by a sister, Gwen Gibbons Tock.

She is survived by her husband, James “Jimmy” McLaughlin; son, Jeff (Alicia) McLaughlin; granddaughter, Elizabeth Anne McLaughlin; brother, Bobby (Jan) Gibbons; sisters, Margaret (Bob) Gibbons Patillo, Brenda (Allen) Gibbons Gibson; and several nieces, nephews and extended family.

The family will receive friends 2:00 – 3:00 PM Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at Effingham Presbyterian Church with the funeral service to follow at 3:00 PM. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home.
