John Leslie Turner Jr.

March 18, 1952 — July 7, 2024

John Leslie Turner Jr., 72, of Florence, SC, passed away on Sunday, July 7, 2024. He was born in Florence, SC, the son of the late John Leslie Turner Sr. and Willena Arnette Turner. Mr. Turner was a 1970 graduate of McClenaghan High School. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, and he was formerly awarded the title of volunteer of the year for the city of Florence. Mr. Turner was an avid baseball fan, coach and mentor at Maple Park for many years. He also enjoyed duck hunting and loved his labradors. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Ina Jean Gough; son, John L. Turner III; father-in-law, The Reverend Dr. J. Edwin Pippin and grandson, James “Max” Pickett. Surviving is his wife, Gloria P. Turner; daughter, Kathryn (Cody) Pickett; son, Christopher (Stephanie) Turner; grandchildren, John L. “Jack” Turner IV and Rylan Lingrosso; nieces and nephews, Paul (Joy) Galloway, Oliver Pippin Jr., Alexander Pippin and Charlotte Pippin; brother-in-law, Oliver (Priscilla) Pippin and mother-in-law, Elsie Pippin. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Calvary Baptist Church at 915 Cherokee Road, Florence, SC 29501. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM, on Thursday, July 11, 2024, at Calvary Baptist Church. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, on Thursday, July 11, 2024, in the church chapel. Entombment at Mount Hope Mausoleum will follow immediately after the service, directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home.
