Joyce Brown Bullock, 88, of Florence, SC, passed away on Thursday, June 13, 2024. Mrs. Bullock was born in Atlanta, GA, on November 23, 1935, to the late Crawford William Brown, Sr. and Elma Lee Jones Brown. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Olin S. Bullock, Jr.; daughter, Vicki Rene Sartorius; and brother, Crawford Brown Jr. After receiving her education in the Atlanta public school system, she worked as a secretary for Otis Elevator Co. in Atlanta. Joyce was an active member of Ebenezer Baptist Church, where she particularly loved working with children and youth in music, missions and Sunday School. Through the years, the family made a number of moves, and Joyce found various opportunities for service in the communities. She was Chairman of the Salisbury, NC Welcome Wagon Newcomers Club for two years, 1968-1969. After being a Co-Leader for a Brownie Scout Troop, she trained to teach others to be Brownie Scout Leaders. After moving to Florence, Joyce served as Chairman of the local Christian Women’s Club during 1979-1980. Mrs. Bullock had the honor of serving on the General Board of the SC Baptist Convention as a Representative from the Florence Association 1981-85. Joyce found joy in many things. She almost never met a dog she did not love. Working in the yard to bring both flowers and vegetables to life was very rewarding. Reading brought special pleasure, and she always tucked in a book (just in case time presented the opportunity to read a few lines). Many hours were spent at her sewing machine over the years, sewing for family, friends and the public. Crafts of all kinds could be found “in process”. During high points and low, music brought “comfort and joy for her soul”, Joyce enjoyed playing the piano. For the greater part of her life, she sang in church choirs and found outlets for beautiful, fun music. Traveling all over the world, Joyce and Olin enjoyed discovering new and old places of interest. Surviving is her son, Richard Bullock, of Dothan, AL; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a brother Lonnie J. Brown (Ruth). The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM in the Ebenezer Baptist Church Fellowship Hall on Tuesday, June 18, 2024. A funeral service will immediately follow in the Chapel. Entombment will be at Florence Memorial Gardens Mausoleum directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ebenezer Baptist Church, 524 S. Ebenezer Road, Florence, SC 29501. Please sign the Guest Book for the family at www.stoudenmiredowling.com
