Lanny Rhett Gregory, Sr., 83, of Florence, SC, passed away on Saturday, March 25, 2023. Mr. Gregory was born the son of the late Annie Grace Clyburn Gregory and Thomas Jefferson Gregory, Sr. He received an Associate Degree from Midlands Technical College. He retired from CP& L (now Duke Energy) as a Communication Specialist. He was forced into retirement due to a serious heart condition and became the best house husband. He proudly served on the Launch Team for Apollo 11 in 1969. Mr. Gregory, along with Cathy, served faithfully at Immanuel Baptist Church for twenty-five years. He was a Deacon, Treasurer, and Director of the sound system. He and Cathy directed the Joy Club for seniors for many years and directed senior activities for the Florence Baptist Association. He and Cathy were members of and worshiped at Pisgah United Methodist Church for fifteen years. He enjoyed the Mens Club of the Church and “fixing things” with his friend, Dallas Stewart. Mr. Gregory loved chocolate, banana splits and every buffet he ever visited, the stock market and mentoring young people in financial affairs (when they would listen), traveling to other states and countries, including South America and Europe, and especially the Holy Land with David Eagerton. Mr. Gregory loved the cross of Jesus, the source of his salvation. The cross is monogrammed on all his shirts and jackets as a verbal and silent witness for his Lord. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his son and daughter-in-law, Lanny Rhett (Tonya) Gregory Jr.; sister and brother-in-law, Mary Lou (Phil) Phillips; and brother and sister-in-law, Bobby (Sue) Gregory.
