Mae Ola White

Mae Ola White, 88, of Florence, SC, passed away on Friday, May 17, 2024. Ms. White was born the daughter of the late Ada Jewel Smith Simmons and Corbit Simmons. Her hobbies included playing bingo and spending time with her great-grandchildren. She loved her family and was the backbone of the family. She will be greatly missed. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her son, James Michael “Mike” White, her grandsons Keith Phillips and William “Earl” Phillips, 3 sisters and 2 brothers. Surviving are her daughters, Patricia McElveen of Florence, Joyce White (Mike) Strickland of Olanta, and Linda (Louis) Newsom of Effingham. Her grandchildren with who she shared a very special bond with, John (Crystal) Newsom of Conway, SC, Casie (Tony) Jackson of Johnsonville, SC, Ryan (Pam) McElveen of Florence, SC, Kevin (Christine) McElveen of Timmonsville, SC, Felicia (Michelle) White of Olanta, SC, Brandon (Danielle) White of Olanta, SC, Cody Miles of Olanta, SC, Tyler (Delani) Miles of Florence, SC, and Brianna Phillips of Florence, SC; 27 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; brothers, James Simmons of High Point, NC, J. C. Simmons of Jacksonville, NC, Johnny Simmons of Wilmington, NC and Waylon Simmons of Shallotte, NC; and sisters, Rosie Clewis of Whiteville, NC, Martha Malpass of Wilmington, NC and Wilma Cartrette of Wilmington, NC. The family will receive friends from 2:00 - 3:00 PM Saturday, June 1st, 2024 at Stoudenmire- Dowling Funeral Home with the funeral service to be held at 3:00 PM in the funeral home chapel.
