Margaret Ann Weatherford Gainey

Margaret Ann Weatherford Gainey, 79, of Darlington, SC, passed away on Friday, September 15, 2023. She was born in Florence, SC, the daughter of the late JC Weatherford and Doris Shaw Weatherford. Ann was a member of Mizpah Baptist Church and more recently Victory Baptist Church, where she was a choir member. She worked as a bookkeeper for many years at BC Moore’s in Darlington, SC and was a supervisor for Electro-Motive for 40 years. Ann was an avid piano player, who visited nursing homes to sing, play, and visit with the residents. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Gainey; son, Michael R. Haynes; and siblings, Fuzzy Weatherford, Billy Weatherford, Betty Lou Porter, Judy Shelly, and Susie Weatherford. Surviving are her daughter, Lori Newman, of Florence, SC; grandchildren, Nikki (Ernest) Tasby, of Darlington, SC, Josh (Brittnay) Newman, of Lynchburg, SC, Joe (Courtney) Newman, of Florence, SC, and Chris (Jerri) Newman, of Effingham, SC; great-grandchildren, Lexi, Aiden, Raylan, Willow, Peyton, Christopher Jr., Dru, Ellen, and River; her siblings, Jack Weatherford Sr., Robbie Weatherford, Janice Poston, and Rita Pattillo. The family wishes to thank Ann’s caregivers for their love, compassion, and friendship given to Ann and her family. The family would also like to thank the Hospice House. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, at Mizpah Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Mizpah Cemetery.
