Marie Hatoway Walkup

Marie Hatoway Walkup, 93, of Florence, passed away on Sunday, October 15, 2023. Mrs. Walkup was born in Gastonia, NC a daughter of the late William Hatoway and Louise Moore Hatoway. She was a member of Parkwood Presbyterian Church and a member of the Senior Citizens Club at Carolinas Hospital System. She loved garage sales, helping others, and volunteered with Meals on Wheels. Marie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 54 years, Robert Morrow Walkup; brother, William R. Hatoway, Jr.; sisters, Dorothy H. Hardis, Frances H. Crest, and Bernice H. Hill; daughter-in-law, Linda Gail Walkup. Surviving are her sons, John Thomas “Tommy” (Terry) Walkup of Florence, William Albert “Bill” (Brenda) Walkup of Pine Ridge, James Robert “Robin” Walkup of Darlington, and David Wayne “Chuck” (Laura) Walkup of Pamplico; nine grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren; brother, David (Fran) Hatoway of Milton, FL; special friend, Dot King. The family will receive friends from 1 – 2 pm Wednesday, October 18, 2023 at Mount Hope Cemetery Mausoleum Chapel with the service to be held at 2:00 pm. Entombment will follow directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home.
