Mary Blanche Clapp Hattaway

Mary Blanche Clapp Hattaway, 89, of Florence, SC, passed away on September 8, 2023. Mrs. Hattaway was born the daughter of the late Willie Blanche Greer Clapp and Edwin Marcus Clapp. She received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of South Carolina having also attended classes at Shaw Air Force Base Extension. She worked 23 years for the Department of Social Services in Clarendon and Edgefield counties. She was an avid Christian who shared her faith openly with everyone she encountered. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, friend and sister. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her husband, Dr. Charles Lamar Hattaway, Sr.; brothers, Marcus Clapp, Roger Clapp, Rudolph Clapp and Jack Clapp; and sisters, Martha Tyler and Helen Clapp. Mrs. Hattaway is survived by her children, Charles Lamar (Denise) Hattaway, II, of Bluffton, SC, Janet C. (Bill) Bodiford of Bluffton, SC, Carey D. (Amy) Hattaway of Bluffton, SC, and Mary Helen (Dan) Watters of Charleston, SC; ten grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, at Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be private. Family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:00 AM on Tuesday at the funeral home.
