Mary Knowles May

Mary Knowles May, 97, of Florence, SC, passed away April 18, 2025. She was born in Gastonia, NC, on December 25, 1927, the daughter of the late Cecil Beaumont Knowles and Hilda Holland Knowles. Mary was a devoted member of First Baptist Church and a passionate artist who found joy in painting. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Spencer May; son, Darryl Spencer May; and sister, Ceceilia Hall Diehl. She is survived by her son, Val Douglas May (Mary Dawn); daughter, Leslie May Spencer (Donn Harms); and grandchild, Sophie Marie May. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
