Miriam Jean Bailey, a lifelong resident of Florence, SC, passed peacefully from this life into the arms of Jesus on Wednesday August 28th, 2024, at home with her daughter and granddaughter by her side. Mrs. Bailey was born in Chesterfield County on November 27, 1935, the daughter of the late LaCoste and Cora Jones Hoffman and the widow of Andrew Ivey Bailey. She grew up attending Middendorf Baptist Church, where she committed her life to Jesus as a young girl, later attending Florence Baptist Temple where she became a member for many years. She retired from BellSouth and was a member of the South Carolina Telephone Pioneers of America. Jean loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, her animals, especially her beloved Oreo, Missy, Nayla, and Riley, traveling to the mountains, gardening, cooking, and decorating for Christmas. Jean leaves behind to cherish her precious memories, her loving daughter Carol H. Jeffords (David) of Florence, her granddaughter Danielle E. Jeffords of Mount Pleasant, her sister Judy Newsome Barr, loving nieces, nephews, and extended family. She was preceded in death by her son, Tony Len Hopkins, grandson David Heath Jeffords, her parents, her brothers, Nickey Hoffman Sr, Bobby Hoffman, sisters, Eunice Kissiah, and Carolyn Walters. Serving pallbearers will be David Jeffords, Brad Rogers, Shand Newsome, Rhett Newsome, Jim Beasley, and Grayson Weeks. Family will receive friends on Saturday, August 31, 2024, at Florence Baptist Temple from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 31, 2024, at the Florence Baptist Temple Chapel, with a private, family burial at the Middendorf Baptist Church Cemetery in Hartsville, SC, directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home.
