Peggy M. Merritt

Peggy M. Merritt, 80, of Effingham, SC passed away on Friday, March 24, 2023. Mrs. Merritt was born in Mullins, SC daughter of the late John and Herbert Mae Collins Marlowe. She was a member of Hebron Baptist Church and retired from Pee Dee Farm Credit and J.C. Penney. She was active as a Hospice volunteer, a volunteer for Cooks for Christ and Disaster Relief, and had been secretary and treasurer for the Woodmen of the World Lodge 52. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Walter Wendell Merritt, who passed away on June 27, 2020; granddaughter, Tori Gomez; brother, John W. Marlowe. Surviving are her children, Donna (David) Bair, Angela (Rick) Gomez, Renee (Frankie) Melton, and Andrew Merritt; grandchildren, Brian, Dawn, Ashley, Hunter, Heather, Taylor, Aaron, Jesse, Hailey, Andrea; 16 great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Hebron Baptist Church Disaster Relief, 8655 Francis Marion Road, Scranton, SC 29591. The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm Sunday, March 26, 2023 at Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Monday, March 27, 2023 at Hebron Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
