Peter George Becker

Peter George Becker, Jr., age 97, of Florence, SC, entered eternal rest on Thursday, December 23, 2021. Mr. Becker was born in 1924 in Ridgewood, NY and was the son of the late Peter George Becker, Sr. and Kathryn Becker.He was a WWII veteran serving in both France and Germany. He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Sibylla Lessmeister Becker; a brother, Stephen Becker and a sister, Elizabeth Becker. He retired from the insurance industry in 1989 and spent the next eighteen years as Captain of the Sibylla III exploring the Intercoastal Waterway and the Florida Keys with his first mate, Sibylla.Mr. Becker was an accomplished artist sharing his talents with his friends and family. Survivors include his two sons, Peter Ernst Becker (Angela) and Steven Eugene Becker (Amy),both of Florence; two daughters, Karen Becker Rotan (Mike) of Florence and Susan Becker Rowell (Wendell) of Lancaster; six grandchildren, Jonathan Edmonds (Bailey) of Greer, Brooke Becker Smith (Jason), Blake Becker, Madison Becker, Austin Becker and Kayla Rotan, all of Florence;four great-grandchildren, Emrick Edmonds, Becker Edmonds, Ellis Edmonds and Jonah Edmonds, of Greer; and many nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at the Florence National Cemetery at 1:00 PM on Thursday, December 30, 2021, directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home.
