Reverend Richard Elsworth Smith Timmonsville, SC Reverend Richard Elsworth Smith, 93, of Timmonsville passed away Sunday, February 5, 2012 in a local healthcare facility. Reverend Smith was born in Norfolk, VA, a son of the late Jasper Smith and Meta Hall Smith.He was a veteran of the US Navy, having served in World War II and was the recipient of a Bronze Star.He attended Campbell College in Buies Creek, NC, Bob Jones University, Greenville, SC, and Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, Wake Forest, NC.Reverend Smith was a Member of the Men's #2 Class at Ridgecrest Baptist Church.He served as pastor at Salem Baptist Church, Aynor, SC, Peniel Baptist Church, Timmonsville, SC, Macedonia Baptist Church, Spring Hope, NC, Rocky Knoll Baptist Church, Greensboro, NC, Oak Grove Baptist Church, Wake Forest, NC, West Bladenboro Baptist Church, Bladenboro, NC, and New Hope Baptist Church, Florence, SC. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 68 years, Annie Lou Jackson Smith; a daughter, Jane Flemming and his twin brother, Pritchard Smith. Reverend Smith was survived by his daughters, Ann Smith of Marion, SC, Melba (Gerald) Lawrence of Timmonsville, SC and Joy (Freddie) Hicks of Charleston, SC; a son, Richard (Pamela) Smith Jr. of Effingham; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and his bonus daughter, Barbara Lee of Marion, SC. Funeral Services will be held 2:00PM Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at Ridgecrest Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Florence Memorial Gardens directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 7:00 - 9:00PM Tuesday at the funeral home. His heart's desire, to the last breath, was to spread the love and gospel of Jesus Christ.
