Richard Grady Hinds Florence, South Carolina Richard Grady Hinds, 81 of Florence, passed away on Saturday, October 15, 2011 at the McLeod Hospice House after an illness. Mr. Hinds was born on November 27, 1929 in Florence County to the late Charlie J. and Odell Bailey Hinds and was raised in the Mars Bluff community.He was a Veteran of the US Army serving during the Korean War and was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church in Florence.During his working years he was the owner of Hinds Realty & Insurance Agency, was a home building contractor and a real estate broker.He also was a police officer with the Florence Police Department during the late 50's. Mr. Hinds was active in the community and served as president of the Greater Pee Dee Homebuilders Association, Florence Board of Realtors, Florence Multiple Listing Service, and the Pee Dee Shrine Club.He was Past Potentate of the Omar Shrine and Past Worshipful Master of the Hampton Lodge #204.He was a life member of the V.F.W. Post 3181, the American Legion Post 1 and the DAV Chapter #11. He is preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Carolyn H. Hayes; and a brother, Aubrey Hinds. Surviving are his loving wife of 55 years, Louise O'Neal Hinds; daughter, Kathy H. (Ron) Graham of Florence; son, Eddie (Judy) Collins of Florence.He was affectionately called "Gi-Gi-" by his three grandchildren, Annette C. (Bucky) Rourke, Will Collins, Beth (Matthew) Tumblin and his great-grandchildren, Brandon & Blake Collins; Ellison, John and Priscilla Rourke.He is also survived by a sister, Jackie (Norman) Derringer and a brother, Bill (Celia) Hinds. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on Tuesday, October 18, 2011 in the chapel of Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home.Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery with full military honors. The family would like to express their appreciation to the Hospice staff and caregivers who so kindly cared for him during his illness. Memorials may be made to McLeod Hospice House, PO Box 10051, Florence, SC 29502, All Saints Episcopal Church, 1425 Cherokee Road, Florence, SC 29501, or the Omar Shriner's Children'sFund, 176 Patriots Point, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464. The family will receive friends from 5-7 PM on Monday, October 17, 2011 at the funeral home and other times at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Collins.
