Robert Lapsley Medlin

December 6, 1933 — August 25, 2023

Robert Lapsley Medlin, 89, passed away peacefully at McLeod Hospice House on August 25, 2023. He is survived by his wife, Bernice, daughters Robin (Schley) Jones and Cathy (Jim) Gill, his son Bobby (Tammy) Medlin, and his sister Mary Hoffmeyer. He also leaves behind his stepdaughters Candy (Kevin) Carter and Angel Thigpen, and his much loved grandchildren and great grandchildren. Robert was born December 6, 1933, to Charles Raymond and Minnie Moffitt Medlin. He graduated from McClenaghan High School, where his excellence on the gridiron enabled him to continue playing football while attending Furman University. He worked for Pepsi-Cola Bottling Company of Florence as general sales manager for 42 years, where he made many lifelong friends. Robert loved hunting, golfing, and fishing, especially at Murrells Inlet, where he and Bernice spent a lot of time. With football season approaching, it’s worth noting that Robert’s heart was big enough for him to be an enthusiastic fan of both the Tigers and the Gamecocks. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who knew him. A special thanks to Heritage Home of Florence, where he was loved and taken care of for over eight years. Thank you also to Agape Hospice and McLeod Hospice for their loving care and support. A memorial service will be held at Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home, on Thursday, August 31, at 1:00 PM, with visitation 30 minutes prior. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association Pee Dee Region, Attn: Candy Carter, 887 Johnnie Dodds Blvd, Suite 100 Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464.
